Do you avoid looking at your body in the mirror?
Recently I stood in front of the video camera and recorded myself with NO makeup!
When I watched it, I realized I really liked me. Yes, I have wrinkles, the camera adds a few pounds, but beyond that, I could see me.
I am wonderfully kind and earnest.
Can you see you?
Growing up I had a beloved, ballsy, and funny Aunt Eleanor.
She loved donuts,Tom Jones, and Pepsi.
She was way too young when she died of liver cancer.
One summer she lost fifty pounds. She ate a fudgesicle every day for lunch.
My aunt could not see herself.
A very funny guy, @TheEntertainer says,
“We are really all here in Human Suits.”
I trained myself to not look at my clients bodies, but rather to really see them. I noticed that as I did this, I began to see myself as well.
I am not my body and neither are you. If we were, we would take it with us when we leave here, and universally, we leave our bodies behind.
I assist you in rediscovering your own magnificence.
It has nothing to do with weight, money, lovers, cars, or the latest handbag (although you can desire and have any of that).
It really has to do with uncovering the magnificence that each of us has within us.
When you are attacking your body as not good enough, YOU ARE WASTING YOUR PRECIOUS ENERGY ON THE WRONG THING!
It is like wanting to go to London from New York and looking for a car to make the trip.
You can try a new kind of tire, a car that floats, a way to get fuel. You can see this is insane and extremely inefficient. We need an airline ticket or a cruise ship.
Going on a diet to lose weight, so you can feel in control, and accept yourself, is like planning to get to London by car.
The airline ticket is changing your mind so you take care of yourself because you can. And you can because you want to. And you want to because you are pretty fricking awesome.
Start your journey today.
I want you to be able to look in the mirror and see that you are lovable.

Body Image and Self Esteem
It is challenging, if not impossible, to consistently take care of yourself when you hate your body.
With poor body image, the directions to eat better can feel like they are outside of the ring you are in, and you are forever trying to escape the fencing, to a freer way of being.
As long as you are focused on breaking the fence, three things are at play.
1) You are reinforcing a disconnection from your real feelings and hunger.
2) You are easily distracted from feeling centered.
3) You have no mental space for the necessary inner work.
These repetitive experiences create neurology that make the fencing stronger.
Women Food and God, author, Geneen Roth writes, “The most challenging part of any system that addresses weight-related issues is that unless it also addresses the part of you that wants something you can’t name – the heart of your heart, not the size of your thighs – it won’t work.“
Being raised to believe you are the greatest thing since the discovery of macaroni and cheese is helpful.
If you weren’t, you will need guidance to move past your sabotaging thought patterns to begin loving the real you.
You can totally change how you see yourself.
The deepest self-esteem is knowing you are a spiritual being having an experience in a body suit.
You are totally lovable whether your bags are Gucci or a little extra on your hips.

What’s Really Offensive?
A blogger whose name I will not mention, wrote that she would find it offensive to watch the sitcom actors, Molly and Mike who met at Overeaters Anonymous kissing on TV.
Her comments were offensive and when I read it, I thought, this woman has her own body issues. And sure enough, in her apology, she admitted that she was a former anorexic.
I tell my clients to practice looking at people without commenting on their bodies. We are spiritual beings.
Every one of us is going to pass on and not one of us will take our bodies with us. It is a trap to over identify with something impermanent, and designed to age.
Have fun in your body? Yes. Enjoy it? Yes. Appreciate it? Yes. Take care of it? Yes Yes. Be a star athlete, sex goddess whatever, just remember, you are having an experience in it. It is not who you are.
I have heard clients say that they feel that thin people assume they are some how superior.
We are bombarded with before and after images of people who have made it. Whether they are starving, living on drinking shakes, or taking drugs is secondary. They are not fat.
On Tweet Deck, you can search a word, and when anyone uses that word, it will come up in your feed. After following the word obese for a few months, there are two kinds of tweets. People make rude remarks about strangers they see in public places, and young girls talk about how much they ate, and how they are going to be obese. (That is a whole other subject for another article.)
Interestingly, when the blog with the offensive comments surfaced, this tweet stream totally changed. The author was called pricelessly insensitive, a body Nazi, insane, and she should be fired immediately. Wow!
The tweets may go back to the former trend.
You, however, CAN CHANGE YOUR MIND!
Practice seeing people for who they really are.
You will find that they are kinder to you and you will feel more peaceful thoughts about yourself.
If you waste your precious thoughts on feeling bad about your body, please stop that!

Ready or Not, Summer is Coming!
Summer comes in two flavors. Ready, and Ready or Not?
Ready is the pink of petunias, youth, and freshly manicured toes.
Ready or Not is the color of toe jam, oh bother, and only your shoes fit!
I think the male equivalent is either last year’s shorts fit or they don’t.
Men don’t have the same number of temperatures as women. Ok. I don’t have any science to back me up. Go ahead and argue, I’ll give you a hot flash!
Ready is when you gladly don your swimsuit and dive into the pool, appreciating how your arms cut through the water. Not ready is the dreadful thought that you have created your own pool of sweat and how are you gonna get up gracefully.
Not ready? Take a baby step…and then another…follow the things across the room that excite you!
Thank your body for everything it does for you.
Shedding extra weight is putting the puzzle pieces of healing together.
