Why Bother to Clear Emotional Traumas

EFT and Hypnosis for Releasing Trauma

Let me give you some examples, and you can come up with your own reasons to call me.

http://freeartisticphotos.com

A client came back in, because after successfully losing bothersome middle-age weight, she was again struggling to stay out of the cookie jar.  With a little probing, I discovered that her young adult-child had been in a serious car accident. Delving into the cookies often happened when he was out.

We flattened the traumatic memory from the accident, and her fear of what could happen when he wasn’t home. Her inner cookie monster disappeared.

Another woman came in because she was afraid of elevators and flying. She could force herself to do both, but not without extreme anxiety.

I discovered that once upon a time she received a phone call that changed everything about her life, and THEN she boarded a plane for a two hour flight. We flattened (in one session) every emotional aspect of this memory. She was pleasantly surprised that she was immediately able to ride in an elevator, and fly, without fear.

A young man came in looking for relief from anxiety headaches. All medical reasons had been ruled out. As a small child he and his brother and mother escaped their country. We spent a whole session on a train trip he had little conscious memory of, and his headaches immediately decreased.

Last year I got a call from a young woman who was driving her distraught roommate, who had just found out her boyfriend had committed suicide, home to be with her family. I did not know the girl and I did not know any of the circumstances.

In crises we are in an altered state and words take on increased meaning. I talked her through some EFT tapping points while saying these words, “Even though something horribly confusing has just happened, I will recover and feel better than I do right now very soon.” Over the phone I heard deep sighs (always a good sign in this kind of work!).

The woman driving called me later to say that the difference between her roommate before and after the call was remarkable.

We are taught to suck it up, and just get over it. That can be useful, but our bodies, our minds, our cells, do remember, and sucking it up can suck!

I love to help you get to the bottom of it!  Be well. Take care of yourself!

Inside My Practice

August was a hot month for change. A software engineer came in to stop an embarrassing, long-term habit and we took care of it in one session.

I had to call him two times to get this information. When we finally talked I said, "Don't tell anyone you saw me. I think it was a coincidence."

A woman came in because she was sure that buried somewhere in her mind was abuse. She felt that she had so many of the symptoms and was just tired of living with them. We were able to shift some of her thoughts; she sent me an encouraging report on how she is feeling as she processes. There is still more to do.

Someone bothered with fibromyalgia came in for pain reduction. I think she was shocked by what a difference EFT made for her. Within twenty minutes her range of motion increased dramatically. While her pain subsided, we did not manage to get her to zero pain. I taught her some things to do and made her a hypnosis recording. I am hoping for her to be free of pain. OK.

This one is from July, but it is fun. I got a text from a beautiful and talented Goddess. She said, "I have been saying no so much this week- and it is delicious and bubbly like champagne! Thanks, you changed my life."

A few people came in for help with processing some painful family relationships. I think of these emotional clearings and picking up the arm on an old record player, and moving it to a new tune.

Some times changing your mind is just that easy!

And then there was the handsome baseball player, who came in with his wife to improve what he called "his head game." His game is on. There's more. She came in for weight loss. Now she is going to Rumba Class and has sent her friend to me.

Another client came in and gave me the high five, " Twenty-five pounds freer!" I love what I do!

What would changing your mind do for you?

The Flip Flop of Change

When my growing girls flip flopped between the comfort of playing with dolls and then reaching out to try on lipstick, my view was compassionate amusement.

Now I am the one flip flopping and I am not feeling particularly compassionate, or amused.

Today I am flat out blue. One of those girls is leaving home to start a life in Washington, DC.

She is determined, lovely, eloquent and brave enough to have made the decision without having a job. All this while friends have been telling her she was foolish.

Well everyone has their opinion, what I know is that we respect people who take chances, go ahead, and believe that it will work out, and it has; and all my pride is not banishing the blue.

So why am I so blue? This daughter has not been in the house for more than a month at a time for the past four years. Recently graduated from college, she has been home for five weeks, just the two of us, and the dog and the cat.

I have more time now. I am not doing the drive bys (this is where you are in such a hurry to get to your appointment, you leave your kid somewhere and then call on the cell phone to make sure they got in). Yes, I was often a crazed single-parent.

For five weeks I have enjoyed folding her laundry, feeding her, hearing about her day. I like all of that, but seriously. I need to dig deeper. Do I feel guilty? Do we parents ever do enough? Am I afraid I won't have enough going on when she is gone? (If you know me, you are laughing here).

I did not cry when either daughter went to kindergarten or college, and I always make jokes about the way mother eagles push their young ones out of the nest and they either make it or Not! Today I cried after I dropped her off at work.

This blue is another curtain closing on my role as Mom. It is another nail in the passing of youth. I can deny the unease of touching my toes, by not trying, but it is impossible to deny that the flipping between busy-Mom and free-Mom is ending.

Does this make me a crone? I love crones, but I am not ready to be one; the title is still for other people. I love being a Mom.

To make matters more intense, I have been sorting family pictures.

Part of this transition is a craving for order. The feng shui consultant has come and gone, and I have projects. I want to enter the next phase peacefully and free of any clutter.

Whew, I do feel better. It is ok to flip flop between happy, sad, and proud.

I did the best I could do, and eagle moms are smart, so out you go girl! Tomorrow, I am buying all of the girls in my family new lipstick!

The Laundry Basket is Gone

In last month’s Hypnosis Hour, we worked on Clearing Clutter. I confessed to the group that part of my motivation for offering the class was the laundry basket that kept reappearing in my bedroom.

As part of sending my baby off to college, I had redone my bedroom, but still the “mom’s room laundry basket” hadn’t disappeared.

Even if the clothes are clean, I do not want to sleep with a laundry basket in my room. Well, a few days after class, as I was emptying it, the daughter and came in asked if she could have it for her dorm room. Well sure, you betcha.

Then I called my friend and fellow hypnotist-friend Gail Sotnik. I call her the room genius. She can take whatever is available, and I have seen it be not much, and still, she can create a whole new look.

I know to get out of her way, be quiet, and yet be ready to “hold something” or “fetch”. Yea, she is that good! She surveyed my room and asked, “What do you want to accomplish?”

“I want to lose the utilitarian feel of this room. I am looking for fun!”

Well, she did her magic, and I now wake up wondering if I am on a ship headed for a tropical island. There is not a laundry basket in sight!

So if I am the practitioner, why did I get so much from the session on Clearing Clutter?

There is something with EFT we call Borrowing Benefits. Whether I am tapping on someone, or they are tapping on themselves, or any one of us is watching the process, the inevitable happens: we go inside to check our own stories. Our perception begins to change and change begins to happen. How cool is that?

During hypnosis hour, one of the topics which emerged was the tendency to hold on to things out of fear. We never know when we might need it.

The second biggest reason was obligation. If someone I care about gave it to me, I need to keep it even if I don’t like it!

Surrounding yourself with things you keep out of guilt, is a heavy existence. My favorite book is Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui by Karen Kingston.

Other authors have followed her. Perhaps most famous is Clean Sweep by Peter Walsh. He expands on the relationship between weight and clutter.

The important questions are,”Do you love it?” and “Are you using it?” One participant reported that she had been getting rid of stuff like crazy, including three raincoats.

Reach Your Goal helps you drink more water and release unconscious sabotaging behaviors. You can listen to it in the car.
