Resolutions 101

Resolutions. Even if you say you do not make resolutions, lurking in your massive mind, is something you would like to Do MORE of , LESS of, or NOT AT ALL.

If that is not true, please type in the letters WTH so I know you are a human.

For the rest of us, let’s start with Resolutions in the category “NOT AT ALL.”

In “NOT AT ALL” we have: “sneaking cigarettes, cheating with a golf-pro, telling the media you have lost your child in a balloon!”….. or small insignificant things like…eating whole cakes, hiding credit card bills……eating anything because it is free or sweet.

Those are all good things, not to do.

So you might say to yourself: I will not eat free candy. I will not smoke another cigarette. I will not cheat. Your mind hears..cheat..candy…cigarettes.

You are doomed. Sorry!

Here is the 1 in Resolutions 101: 1. Do not mention what you are escaping.

Spinning works wonders for politicians, the tobacco industry, the makers of partially hydrogenated oil, corn syrup, and now you!

You want your internal press release to pull your emotional strings in the right direction.

For stop smoking try: I love smelling kissable.

If you are cheating, try this: I love looking at myself in the mirror and saying, “Sure honey, my cell phone is your cell phone and here is a list of all my email accounts with passwords.”

And for parents with big balloons in the back yard, “I recognize that my children are smart competent human beings whom I love and respect.”

LESS is a zero in 101. LESS is ambiguous. Less confuses all of us. When the mind is confused, it goes back to what it knows. That’s right, more smoking, more cheating, and spurious calls to the news.

Less demands specific directions. After the third drink, I will taste onions in my mouth and remember that I have to work and I love my clear driving record.

After one piece of cake, I will immediately begin to obsess and make myself so miserable that at the sight of cake I will want to add icing, box it up, and send it to ex-husband’s new wife.

The next resolution category is…..DO MORE.  If, at the sound of “DO MORE!” you had a reaction and it did not include jumping up with enthusiasm, you may want to keep reading.

You could DO MORE to save more for retirement; use the gym membership you are paying for. Yes, you should do more of those things and more of many more things.

Do MORE is a heavy freight train, heading down hill, carrying the guilty Woulda! Shoulda! Couldas!

Officially, we do not have enough qualified priests to absolve all the guilt from not doing enough!  We have to give DO MORE a zero too.

I know that last zero makes this Resolution 1001. But if I mentioned that in the title, you would not be reading this. I am just saying…….

The final 1 in Resolutions 101: the mind likes benefits. Stuff your resolutions with specific directions and benefits.

I weigh (insert # here) and feel like a tiger..tigress?

I can smell fresh air, flowers, perfume. I love having a great sense of smell.

The more veggies I eat the better I feel!

Resolutions, like affirmations are statements of truth in advance.

If, when writing your resolution with benefits, you run into a problem like this; I love my kissable breath, but I really don’t want to kiss the person I think I am supposed to kiss!!

CALL ME IMMEDIATELY!
